You can hear the gaffe at the very beginning of this Eyewitness News report about how crappy the city’s online crime-mapping system is.
The city hasn’t updated its crime maps for weeks.
The city thinks the NOPD is supposed to update the crime maps. The NOPD says the city’s server isn’t working.
Who cares about the safety of the community? Apparently not the NOPD or the city.
One thing is certain: People will defend themselves from potential threats if they’re equipped with the information they have a right to know.
I say, citizens can do this better, and the city needs to stop stonewalling requests for electronic records to be published online, so that citizens can do for themselves something which clearly isn’t a priority for the city.
