No surprise — Cynthia Willard-Lewis would rather stand up for trash contractors, than stand up for the city’s youth, and for the safety of its citizens.
Councilwoman Cynthia Willard-Lewis was the only member of the council to vote against the plan. With its vote, the council restored full financing of the district attorney’s office, indigent defender’s office, after-school programs and swimming classes, among other programs. …
The council also placed a portion of the Sanitation Department budget in reserve, making its release contingent on further council action.
That’s a lot of loyalty for $10,000. It certainly makes one wonder if other sums of money have changed hands.
Thanks to the rest of the City Council for having the courage and tenacity to stand up to Ray Nagin’s stupidity and peevishness, and for working so hard to come up with an alternative budget. There may be more work to do on the budget, but this is a step in the right direction.
