Can we get some federal law enforcement to New Orleans?

    4th March 2009

It’s time to stop Jim Letten ‘em go. Where has our U.S. Attorney been?

We have a lot of moving parts in New Orleans. We need someone in the U.S. Attorney’s post who can handle more than one thing at a time, and who isn’t afraid to seek justice when public officials abuse their office — whether they’re green, gold, purple, black, brown, or white.

The Nagin administration has repeatedly undermined the public’s right to know with willful destruction of public records. How is it that the same email server on which Ray Nagin’s email files were destroyed is the same server still containing three years of the City Council’s emails which were released by the Nagin administration without approval from the Council?

The Nagin administration has violated the private individual right to confidentiality in order to begin illegal pre-discovery without pressing charges by wholesale release of the emails of City Councilmembers to an attorney without the Councilmembers’ approval or ability to review.

The Nagin administration has engaged malfeasance in the awarding of contracts which led to $4 million in overcharges to the taxpayers for a crime camera system which still doesn’t work. Do we really need any more justification for an open contracting process?

The U.S. Attorney’s office has allowed the NOAH scandal to smolder.

Note the report completed by the Office of Inspector General, along with his recommendation for consideration of criminal charges:

It’s time for a federal law enforcement agency to prosecute officials in Ray Nagin’s administration — if not Ray Nagin himself.

And for all of his talk about greater transparency in the expenditure of federal economic stimulus money, what is Barack Obama’s position with respect to transparency and accountability in the expenditure of Katrina recovery money? Does he really trust Ray Nagin to spend federal tax dollars wisely?

Ray Nagin is out of step with history, and out of step with the law.

Schroeder you forgot to mention our very own “Foti Lite” AG Buddy Caldwell who doesn’t seem to be doing shee-at in or out of New Orleans.

My comment pertains to U.S. Attorney Jim Letten –specifically, the fact that Letten should be replaced with a new U. S. Attorney because his pattern of performance demonstrates that he selects and chooses whom he prosecutes / investigates. His behavior further shows that he conceals and / or distorts facts and evidence, abusing his authority and position for persons he chooses to shield. JUDICIAL CORRUPTION in Louisiana’s Federal Court system is an incredibly unabashed realism. Letten demonstrates repeated acts of covering for certain judges and judicial improprieties and unconstitutional activities; and Letten’s role in concealing identities of Johns who patronized the New Orleans Canal Street Brothel -inclusive of U. S. Senator David Vitter- when the brothel was raided is rumored to be the reason why Congressman Vitter got Letten promoted from acting U.S. Attorney to U.S. Attorney. Also, the fact that federal Judge Thomas Porteous is now being considered for impeachment from the bench, supports conclusions that Letten did in fact “doctor” the facts and evidence Letten submitted to the Washington Feds when Porteous was being scrutinized concerning the “Operation Wrinkled Robe” scandal. Various other wrongful acts by Letten on behalf of certain wealthy persons attests that New Orleans corruption will not change. Letten MUST BE REPLACED! For irrefutable proof of Letten’s disturbing manner of conduct, here are a few links to check out:
